Health Equity and Social Determinants of Health

Health equity is the principle that everyone should have the opportunity to attain their highest level of health, regardless of their socioeconomic status, race, or other factors. Social determinants of health, such as access to education, housing, and healthcare, significantly influence health outcomes and contribute to health inequities. Addressing social determinants of health is critical to achieving health equity and improving population health. Healthcare providers must work to identify and address social determinants of health in patient care, while policymakers must develop strategies to address systemic health inequities. By prioritizing health equity and addressing social determinants of health, healthcare systems can improve health outcomes for all individuals and communities.
